Stop and smell the roses


Some of the job hazards of being a winemaker are that 1) you can’t use bleach on your clothes or house 2) you can’t make homemade yogurt, vinegar or many types of beer and 3) there are days (blending trial days) when you can’t stop to smell the roses or drink coffee. Today is not one of those days, so with my thermos of coffee in hand, I walked down the vineyard, cut some of my favorite roses, put them in one of my laboratory beakers and all I can say is, Friday, here I come.
